IN MY OPINION…
It’s June and the classes already begun, it is good to see young one’s going to school with full of hope that someday they will have a better life and better a future. I am one of who strongly believes that education is the best stepping stone to have it all: better future, better life and better generation.
The Enhanced K+12 Basic Education Program in the Philippines has been officially started. It has been initiated by the Aquino administration where students will have to undergo a new system of education.
The K to 12 Program covers kindergarten and 12 years of basic education (six years of primary education, four years of junior high school, and two years of senior high school [SHS]) to provide sufficient time for mastery of concepts and skills, develop lifelong learners, and prepare graduates for tertiary education, middle-level skills development, employment, and entrepreneurship.
But come to think of it, it is really the solutions of our problem when it comes to our education system, to add two more years?
Every Filipinos wants to have a better quality of education, and I knew this program was launch for this intention, to ensure and uplift the quality of our education.
But in my opinion it is not the answer to this entire problem:
Additional years will become a burden especially to an ordinary family who have 7 to 10 children and got only minimum wage.
If you want to uplift the quality of education, start it from providing better books, better classroom, and well trained teachers who taught our children in school.
I became once a student and now a parent, I’ve seen every year the following scenario why our students don’t have enough room to learn.
– Insufficient classrooms, books, and lack of institutional materials for the teachers, such as visual aid, and the likes.
– One teacher for every 50 to 60 students and sometimes particularly in remote areas one teacher for 2 grade level.
– Lack of assistance from our government.
If you try to put your shoe for every students who goes to school every year with the scenarios like this how can you possibly expect to learn for a crowded place where you are able to hear even the breath of your seatmates because it is too crowded. How can you possibly enjoy every moment of it if you don’t have books to read and need to share it from 2 or more classmates.
Now I am asking again do you think it is the best way to uplift and ensure the quality of our education?
